traceless®: Sustainable Heat Supply for Its First Production Facility

Different Heat Sources Combined in One System

Cleantech scale-up traceless® continues to attract attention – most recently on heute-show Spezial on ZDF, which highlighted its innovative, bio-based alternatives to plastic. In keeping with the company’s consistent commitment to sustainability, NESS designed and installed the heat supply system for its first industrial production facility.

Initial Situation

Existing Infrastructure Meets a New Heat Supply System

The starting point was an existing building with various heat consumers and a heat pump already in place. A new heating and expansion system needed to be planned and designed to provide the heat supply. The challenge was to integrate the existing infrastructure effectively and make the system ready for the future.

1) Our Task

Planning and System Integration

NESS took responsibility for the complete planning and design of the new heating and expansion system. This included piping and equipment layout planning within the existing boiler room, as well as the manufacture of various pump stations.

The scope of supply included:
  • A heater at the heart of the thermal oil system
  • A heater pump station
  • Secondary circuit pump stations
  • Nitrogen blanketing
  • An expansion vessel and a collection tank
  • A Second Life for Used Components

For sustainability reasons, traceless® deliberately chose a suitable used system. In line with circular economy principles, NESS incorporated these components seamlessly into the new system design to keep resource use to a minimum.

    2) Focus on technology

    Combining and Integrating Existing Systems

The main technical focus was on ensuring that the components worked together seamlessly and integrating the existing heat pump into the heating system.

The heater with a gas burner supplied by NESS forms the heart of the thermal oil system. With a thermal output of 1,000 kW, the system is one of the compact heat transfer systems in the NESS portfolio and is precisely tailored to the production facility’s requirements.

    3) Implementation

A Tailored Solution for Existing Premises

During installation, the piping and equipment layout were adapted to fit the existing boiler room. New and reused system components were brought together to form a coordinated overall system.

Throughout the project, NESS and traceless® worked together in a solution-oriented spirit of partnership. Technical proposals from NESS were discussed jointly and implemented with clear objectives.

    4) The Result

Efficient Heat Supply for the Future

In 2026, the heat transfer system was successfully commissioned at traceless®’s first production facility.

The result is a custom-designed heating and expansion system that effectively integrates the existing heat pump and demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability through the reuse of existing system components. The project clearly shows how NESS combines existing infrastructure, sustainable reuse and modern heater technology into a tailored overall solution.
