Maël Baudoin , a trainee from Gournay, feels ‘like one big family’ at NESS Wärmetechnik GmbH.

The description for the solidarity of the employees originally comes from Marlene Schwarz from the HR department, who paved the way in the background for the young man as Remshalden’s French partner community COMMUNE DE GOURNAY EN BRAY and solved all organisational issues in advance in her friendly manner.

Maël has been able to get to know the renowned Remshalden family business since mid-July.

As a fourth-year engineering student, working for the international heating technology specialist is a stroke of luck for him. He talks enthusiastically about the insights he has already gained. Marketing Director Jan Ohrmann has accompanied him from the start and shared both his knowledge and his office with him. Maël’s first task was to translate various texts from English into French.

In the meantime, he has moved to another office to work face-to-face with a young team of engineers on his current project on solar modules. Another challenge awaits him shortly in the field of design. But the insights have not and will not be limited to the respective area. The 100 or so permanent employees were informed about the internship so that Maël had the chance to get a taste of different areas.

Flat hierarchies, a large network and experience with the employment of foreign students provide an ideal framework. The most important thing, however, seems to be the openness, which is also immediately noticeable as a visitor on a tour of the company. Maël is overjoyed to have found a job at NESS and to be able to learn a lot and receive help in overcoming hurdles. This applies not only to the technical guidance, but also to the language barrier, which is not a barrier at NESS. If German language skills are not sufficient, an exchange in English is possible without any problems due to the international orientation of the company.

It will be an exciting few weeks until Maël has to say goodbye and return to his home in Normandy. The internship abroad at NESS will allow him to continue his studies at his university in Lille in the winter semester without losing any time. Now that young people in Europe are expected to gain experience abroad during their training and studies, organising internships has become another task of the partnership committee.

This shows that a lively community partnership and Franco-German friendship are at least as important today as they were in earlier decades, when the focus was more on reconciliation work and less on professional exchange. However, in order to be able to offer young people like Maël such an opportunity, good co-operation with Remshalden companies is needed. The partnership committee and the municipality of Remshalden would therefore like to thank the fantastic team at NESS, especially Jan Ohrmann and Marlene Schwarz. Special thanks also go to Dr Andreas Ness and Dietmar Ness, who were spontaneously open to the internship request from the partner municipality and created the basis for this form of active community partnership.
