ARAUCO – Grayling site

Clean heat transfer oil, safe systems

In thermal plants, the quality of the heat transfer oil is crucial: even the smallest particles—especially metallic abrasion particles—can lead to deposits, increased wear, and, in the worst case, unplanned downtime.
The FF300 fine filter station from NESS Wärmetechnik GmbH effectively minimizes these risks. ARAUCO Grayling site impressively demonstrates how technology and maintenance can work together to create real added value.

The initial situation

When ‘good’ isn’t good enough

ARAUCO has been operating two NESS FF300 fine filter stations for its two systems at its site for many years. From the outset, the focus has been on optimum oil quality and reliable plant operation. Although this was always the case and the oil quality was above average, the quality standard was set at a target Conradson value of 0.0.

What does the customer say about the project?

Daniel Rach | Maintenance Engineer at ARAUCO – North America

“The collaboration with NESS was crucial. With the new changes to the fine filter station, we have not only improved oil quality, but also set new standards. Today, the system runs more stably, cleanly, and reliably than ever before. This shows what is possible when technology and maintenance go hand in hand.”

1) 10 μm filter insert

Consistent further improvement

Originally, the systems were equipped with 15 μm filter inserts. With the introduction of the new 10 μm filter insert from NESS Wärmetechnik, the filtration fineness could be significantly improved once again. The finer insert removes even smaller particles from the heat transfer oil – for less wear, more stable oil quality, and more efficient heat transfer overall.

At ARAUCO, the difference was quickly noticeable – and Maintenance Engineer Dan Rach decided to optimize the system even further.

2) Magnetic rod

Additional magnetic rod against metallic contaminants

In addition to switching to the new filter insert, the team added further measures to the system.

By installing a magnetic rod, metallic contaminants caused by abrasion of the valves and other system components can now be specifically removed from the system.

3) Optimization

Optimization of cleaning intervals

The measures enabled the necessary cleaning intervals for the fine filter stations to be reduced to a two-month cycle.

Result

Schnelle und zielsichere Umsetzung

By combining the NESS fine filter station, 10 μm filter insert, and magnetic technology, ARAUCO was able to achieve significant improvements. This is an example of operational safety in action, where technical innovation and maintenance go hand in hand.
